LIGHTING THE SHABBAT CANDLES

Picture
It is customary to light two shabbat candles for the start of shabbat. Traditionally  this is done by Jewish woman,18 minutes before shabbat. There is nothing in Torah that commands this and since we only know shabbat starts in the evening , you will have to decide what works best for your family. The woman usually lights the candles for two reasons, one she is responsible for the first sin and the cause of the light dimming from the world, and also she is in charge over the household. She would light the two candles and can light an additional candle for each child. She would then cover her eyes and say this prayer:

BARUKH ATAH YHWH ELOHEINU, MELEK HA'OLAM
ASHER KID'SHANU B'MITZVOTAV V'TZIVANU
LEHIYOT OR LE GOYIM
V'NATAN-LANU ET YAHOSHUA MESHICHEINU OR HA' OLAM

Blessed are you YHWH, our G-d, King of the Universe, who sanctified us with his commandments, and commanded us to be a light to the nations and who gave to us Yahoshua our messiah the light of the world.

This is a messianic prayer. There also is a Torah prayer. She then uncovers her eyes and says a prayer to bless her children.

Kiddush(sanctification)

Isaiah 58:13 ...call the Sabbath a delight and the Holy Day of YHWH honorable

It is customary to sanctify the time by reciting Kiddush, a special ceremony performed at the beginning of Shabbat and other Holy Days. Normally recited before the meal by the Father of the household while holding a cup of wine. The ceremony has two distinct parts. First Genesis 1:31 -2:3 is read followed by a Hebrew blessing thanking
YHWH. The first part of Kiddush:

Vay'hi erev vay'hi voker yom hashishi
And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day
vay'khulu hashamayim v'ha'aretz v'khol tz'va'am
The heavens and the earth were finished, the whole host of them
vay'khal YHWH bayom hash'vi'i m'la'kh'to asher asah
And on the seventh day YHWH completed his work that he had done
vayish'bot bayom hash'vi'i mikol m'la'kh'to asher asah
and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done
Vay'varekh YHWH et yom hash'vi'i vay'kadeish oto
And YHWH blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it
ki vo shavat mikol m'la'kh'to asher bara YHWH la'asot
because in it he had rested from all his work that YHWH had created to do
Barukh atah YHWH, Eloheinu, melekh ha-olam
Blessed are you, YHWH, our God, sovereign of the universe
borei p'ri hagafen (Ahmayn)
Who creates the fruit of the vine (Ahmayn)
shehakol nih'yeh bid'varo (Ahmayn)
Who made all things exist through His word
Barukh atah YHWH, Eloheinu, melekh ha-olam
Blessed are You, YHWH, our God, King of the Universe
asher kid'shanu b'mitz'votav v'ratzah vanu
who sanctifies us with his commandments, and has been pleased with us
v'shabat kad'sho b'ahavah uv'ratzon hin'chilanu zikaron l'ma'aseih v'rei'shit
You have lovingly and willingly given us Your holy Shabbat as an inheritance, in memory of creation
ki hu yom t'chilah l'mik'ra'ei kodesh zeikher litzi'at Mitz'rayim
because it is the first day of our holy assemblies, in memory of the exodus from Egypt
ki vanu vachar'ta v'otanu kidash'ta mikol ha'amim
because You have chosen us and made us holy from all peoples
v'shabat kad'sh'kha b'ahavah uv'ratzon hin'chal'tanu
and have willingly and lovingly given us Your holy Shabbat for an inheritance
Barukh atah Adonai m'kadeish hashabat (Ahmayn).
Blessed are You, who sanctifies Shabbat

Our Roadschool Guidelines

  1. Always use soft words, even when you don’t feel well.
  2. Always display kind actions and joyful attitudes, even if you have been mistreated. Have the right response by quickly forgiving others in your heart even before they ask.
  3. Always be enthusiastic and look for opportunities to praise others' character.
  4. Always deflect praise and be grateful to YHWH and others for the ways they have benefited your life.
  5. Always use manners and be respectful of others and their belongings.
  6. Always do what is right, even when others may not, or when no one is looking.
  7. Thank YHWH for how He made you, for what He has given you and everything He allows you to go through. (Romans 8:28)
  8. Don’t mock or put others down. Develop compassion and pray for others.
  9. Never argue, complain, or blame. Quickly admit when you have done wrong and ask for forgiveness (even if you were only 10% at fault). Don't wait till you’re caught. Be sure your sins will find you out. He who covers his sin will not prosper, but he that confesses and forsakes it shall find mercy.
  10. Have a tough accountability/prayer partner to daily share your heart with and to keep you in line (your parents, spouse). The power of sin is in secrecy.
  11. Be attentive and look for ways to serve others with sincere motives and no thought of self-gain.
  12. Think pure thoughts (Philippians 4:8, Romans 13:14).
  13. Always give a good report of others. Don't gossip! Never tale-bear unless physical harm will come to someone. (Use Matthew 18.)
  14. Never raise a hand to hit.
  15. Never raise a foot to kick.
  16. Never raise an object to throw.
  17. Never raise a voice to yell.
  18. Never raise an eye to scowl.
  19. Use one toy/activity at a time. Share!
  20. Do your best to keep your surroundings neat, clean and organized.
  21. Never let the sun go down on your wrath. (Don’t go to bed angry or guilty)
  22. Amendment Y.O.Y. -  Put Yahoshua (messiah) first, Other second, Yourself last.
We borrowed this from Duggar Family Website. Feel free to copy and use this one. I will have the children practice writing these
along with 10 commandments if they are just bouncing off the wall and being disruptive and i run out of chores..lol. It's
important for me as a mama to have them balance fun, creativity, with being constructive.
Pro 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left [to himself] bringeth his mother to shame.

Learning about roles of woman, Man as your headship, Messiah as Man's head.

Today, we studied with Brother Marlon and his wife Sister Star about everything from what scripture says about the design of a woman, her purpose from being taken out of the rib, our husband as our head, the husband's head is Messiah and so much more. The more i read scripture and i have been doing so with the intent of a greater understanding of my purpose for about 13 plus years, the mor ei realize I understand so very little. I can easliy spit out passages but, clear understanding takes so many years of studying. It's truly been a blessing to my family to be studying with the Broussard Family.

A couple of things I learned:

A man should not claim lordship over another man from a teacher to a Pastor to a priest. A teacher can be merely someone that guides another man to learn and seek Yahoshua (christ), the messiah as your Head. Many so called teachers that seek to place another man in a submissive position while elevating him or herself, is in a sense committing adultry against mashiac (messiah). It is scripturally incorrect. We went into 1 Corinthians to furthur study this matter.

A man was created in Elohim's (God) image and woman was created in and out of the image of man. We went into Genesis as well as some New Testament study on this. A woman taken as a piece from man, a rib is so bound to serve man as she was created specifically to be a helpmeet. Her will is that of her husband. How to help and serve him. It is really amazing and humbling as many of us come from a feminist upbringing and society teaces us to have our own agenda. Truly the media portrays men as dumb and useless and woman as being over their husbands, dominant beings only capable of making logincal decisions. Wow , yes this is so true. It has gotten to the point that our men feel weak and dismissed in our scoiety and woman will go so far as to say I  do not need a man. Not even to make a baby. This is contrary to the order Elohim(God )has created from the being. We are being taught consciously to rebel against our true Creator. Absolutely, unacceptable. We are to submit to the will of our husband which can mean, he wants the kids in bed at 8 pm every night or his wife to dress modestly or his wife to work, etc.

My aid , I use this online  alot is blue letter bible. There are other great programs as well and as i learn them will share them.
